Green Jays Cross Country Makes Historic Debut at Freed Speed Invitational
Pinson, TN – The Jackson State Community College Green Jays Men's and Women's Cross Country teams made history today, competing in their first-ever meet at the Freed Speed Invitational hosted at Pinson Mounds.
The men's team earned a strong 5th-place finish, competing against a field of NCAA Division II and NJCAA programs. Freshman Jonathon Graves made a statement in the program's debut, racing to a third-place overall finish with a time of 27:08, securing a spot on the podium. Teammates Samuel Evans (30:58), Jacob Richmond (33:32), Ammar Nasr (35:33), and Sam Ewing (36:24) rounded out the scoring for the Green Jays.
On the women's side, the Green Jays showed resilience and unity in their first collegiate race. Natalie Boner (30:37) led the team, followed by Victoria Graves (34:46), Naiasja Hill (34:59), and Lilly McClanahan (44:29), proudly completing the inaugural competition in program history
Head Coach Arthur Priddy reflected on the moment:
"Today was about more than times and places. It was about planting the flag for Green Jay Cross Country. Jonathon set the pace with an incredible podium finish, and our men's and women's teams showed tremendous courage in representing Jackson State for the very first time."
The Green Jays will return to action Septeber 13th at JSCC, as they continue to build momentum in their inaugural season.
